A major security operation in Edo State has led to the arrest of 12 suspected cult members after police reportedly uncovered plans for coordinated attacks in Auchi. The suspects were rounded up during a joint raid carried out by operatives of the Edo State Police Command and the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC).

According to the police, the operation took place at Amazing Grace Estate in Elele Community, Uzairue, Auchi, after intelligence reports revealed that the group had allegedly moved in from Okpella to launch attacks on rival cult groups.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, the police described the arrests as a swift response to credible intelligence.

“Operatives of the Edo State Police Command in collaboration with the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) have arrested twelve suspected cultists following a swift response to credible intelligence at Amazing Grace Estate, Elele Community, Uzairue, Auchi,” the statement read.

The suspects arrested were identified as Abiola Anabgaifo, 33; Idogo Joshua, 28; Oseni Sani, 22; Aminu Abubakar, 19; Iyamah Precious, 29; Usman Rapheal, 29; Ogene Jude, 31; Ibrahim Aheem, 27; Tunde Bright, 20; Jude Edeh, 21; Godwin Edeh, 19; and Aigbona Clifford, 20.

Police said the arrests were made on May 7, 2026, around 6:00 p.m., shortly after the suspects allegedly gathered in the area.

Investigators disclosed that seven of the arrested men reportedly admitted involvement in cult activities during preliminary interrogation. Some of them were also said to have identified themselves as members of the Aye and Vikings confraternities.

Security operatives also recovered a grey Mercedes-Benz SUV with registration number GWA 471 DS during the operation. The vehicle was allegedly linked to one Balogun Isreal, who remains on the run.

Authorities said the operation prevented what could have escalated into violent clashes between rival cult groups within the community.

Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, commended the operatives for acting swiftly and professionally, while reiterating the Command’s commitment to maintaining security across the state.

He stated that the police would continue aggressive operations against cultism and violent crimes to prevent further security breakdown in Edo communities.

“All suspects have been transferred to Anti-Cultism unit and will be prosecuted upon conclusion of investigation,” the statement added.

The police also warned criminals operating in Edo State to either abandon illegal activities or leave the State entirely.

“The Command warns all criminal elements to either repent or leave Edo State, as the Command remains fully prepared to deal decisively with anyone threatening the peace and security of residents,” the statement further said.

The development comes amid rising tension over insecurity in the State following the killing of a yet-to-be-identified student of University of Benin near the institution’s Ugbowo campus in Benin City on Sunday.

The incident reportedly caused panic within the university community, with the school management later distancing students of the institution from the killing and suggesting it may have been linked to cult-related violence outside the campus.

Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities for the 2026/2027 academic session can now breathe easier after the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) officially retained 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for university admissions nationwide.

The decision was announced on Monday during JAMB’s annual policy meeting held in Abuja, where vice-chancellors from various universities across the country participated in the deliberations and voting process.

According to the examination body, the benchmark was approved following votes cast by the vice-chancellors present at the meeting.

The announcement means universities will not admit candidates who score below 150 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for the 2026/2027 admission cycle.

More details are expected to emerge from the policy meeting as stakeholders continue discussions on admission guidelines for tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security as the administration intensifies efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering and security coordination across Nigeria.

The appointment, announced on Monday through a statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), is seen as part of renewed moves to improve collaboration among the country’s security and intelligence agencies in tackling emerging threats.

According to the statement, Fadewa was selected based on his “exceptional record of service, strategic expertise, and outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s national security architecture.”

The circular was signed by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

The Presidency said the appointment reflects Tinubu’s determination to deepen intelligence coordination and strengthen inter-agency cooperation in addressing national security challenges.

Fadewa, a retired Major General, brings more than 30 years of experience in military intelligence, counter-terrorism operations, national security strategy, and international security diplomacy.

Between 2015 and 2021, he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), where he reportedly played a major role in developing Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.

He is also credited with leading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) at ONSA — a joint intelligence-sharing platform involving the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Armed Forces.

The platform was created to improve national threat assessment and enhance coordinated responses among security agencies.

After retiring from military service, Fadewa became a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja, focusing on policing, civil-security cooperation, and reforms in national security.

He also authored the monograph, “Policing and National Security in Nigeria,” where he proposed practical strategies for improving collaboration between security agencies and civil institutions.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired General would deploy his experience and strategic expertise toward advancing the administration’s homeland security agenda.

The President added that the appointment would support efforts aimed at building a safer Nigeria through stronger intelligence integration, proactive risk management, and improved coordination of security operations nationwide.

Tinubu also charged the new Special Adviser to apply his professionalism in driving the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

  • Starmer Refuses to Quit Despite Labour Crushing

Starmer Vows to Stay On Despite Labour’s Worst Local Election Defeat in 30 Years

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is refusing to resign after Labour suffered its heaviest losses in local elections since 1994, insisting his government is a “10-year project”.

Speaking in London on Monday, Starmer acknowledged voter frustration but said he would “prove the doubters wrong”.

“I know that people are frustrated by the state of Britain. Frustrated by politics, and some people frustrated with me,” he said. “I know I have my doubters and I know I need to prove them wrong. And I will”.

Labour lost nearly 1,500 council seats and control of 35 councils across England, Scotland and Wales, with Reform UK making major gains and becoming the main opposition in several regions. The result has triggered open rebellion inside Labour, with around 30 MPs publicly questioning Starmer’s leadership.

Former junior Foreign Minister Catherine West said she would listen to Starmer’s Monday speech before deciding whether to seek the 81 MP signatures needed to trigger a leadership contest. She told the BBC: “We will find out”.

In an interview with The Observer, Starmer dismissed speculation he would step down, saying: “I’m not going to walk away from the job I was elected to do in July 2024. I’m not going to plunge the country into chaos”.

Cabinet members have largely stood by him so far. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said Labour had received “a real kicking from the voters, there’s no escaping that”, but added Starmer would set out a “fresh direction” for Britain.

Veteran Labour MP John McDonnell warned against rushing into a contest, while Ian Byrne said a leadership race could be “manipulated by powerful figures within the Party establishment”. Speculation has swirled around Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham as a possible replacement, but he is not currently an MP and cannot stand.

If Starmer survives and serves a second term, he would become Britain’s third-longest continuously serving Prime Minister in the last 200 years, behind Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair. He is required to call the next general election by 2029.

Missing Abuja Lawyer Eunice Ameh Released After Ransom Payment

Abuja-based lawyer and NYSC member Eunice Ameh has been freed after spending days in captivity, following the payment of ransom.

Her release was confirmed on Sunday by lawyer Festus Ogun, who shared the update on X. Ogun said Ameh was let go after money was paid to her abductors.

“Eunice, the Abuja lawyer earlier abducted, has been freed after payment of ransom,” Ogun posted. He criticized the state of insecurity in the country, saying the incident reflected poorly on the Tinubu administration and the APC.

“Those who support this incompetency may continue. It’s Eunice today, it could be anyone tomorrow,” he added.

Family sources said Ameh was found unharmed on Sunday morning, bringing relief to relatives, colleagues, and members of the legal community who had been worried since she went missing.

“She has been found unharmed this morning,” a family source confirmed.

Ameh was last seen on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, before resurfacing on Sunday, May 10. Her disappearance sparked outrage among lawyers, with the Nigerian Bar Association calling for her immediate release.

“When a young lawyer goes missing, the pain is not distant to the NBA, it is personal,” NBA President Afam Osigwe said in a statement on Saturday night titled “Release Eunice Ameh Now!”

Relatives said Ameh had only started working as a Sales Manager at Blades and Butchers Ltd. in Maitama, Abuja, about two weeks before she disappeared. She was also nearing the end of her NYSC service.

According to family, she was last seen around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday while heading home to the Life Camp area after work. The case was reported to the Maitama Police Division and NYSC officials were notified.

Family members described the days before her release as traumatic and emotionally draining as they waited for news.

Truck Driver Kills Two in Hit-and-Run Horror on Lagos-Badagry Expressway

    By Pixel Pulse Media • May 11, 2026 • 3 min read

A chaotic scene unfolded on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Sunday after a speeding truck driver allegedly struck a pedestrian, fled, and later crushed a motorcyclist who was chasing him.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident began near the Iyana-Iba Flyover, close to Lagos State University’s main gate. A heavily loaded bucket truck was moving from the Volkswagen area toward Badagry when it hit a pedestrian.

Instead of stopping, the driver sped off. That’s when a motorcyclist and another passerby gave chase, trying to force him to stop and take responsibility.

LASTMA said the chase ended tragically when the truck rammed into the motorcycle. The motorcyclist died on the spot, while the second rider narrowly escaped with his life.

LASTMA’s Night Gang Surveillance team arrived quickly for rescue and recovery. Officials said the motorcyclist’s body was trapped under the truck’s front tyre before it was pulled out. The truck driver was arrested immediately and handed over to police at the PPL Post in Okokomaiko, alongside the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), for further investigation.

FRSC officials evacuated the motorcyclist’s body, and family members later came to claim the pedestrian who was killed earlier. Both the damaged motorcycle and the truck were taken to the police station while investigations continue.

    “This incident is heartbreaking,”
    — Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA

He blamed reckless driving by truck operators for the rise in fatal crashes on Lagos highways, and urged drivers, especially truckers, to obey speed limits and drive carefully to prevent more loss of life.

London’s Air Ambulance Warns of Fuel Crisis as Middle East Conflict Drives Costs Up 116%

London’s Air Ambulance Service has raised alarm over soaring fuel costs triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, warning that the charity could soon face serious financial pressure if the situation drags on.

The life-saving organisation said the price of aviation fuel has more than doubled in just a few months, forcing it to divert donation funds toward keeping its helicopters in the air.

Captain Chris Sherriff, one of the service’s pilots, said the charity depends heavily on public support and donations to survive, but rising operational expenses are now eating deep into those funds.

“At the moment, we’re having to channel money meant for projects into paying for fuel,”
    — Captain Chris Sherriff

According to the charity, the cost of operating its helicopter has climbed from £222 per hour in February to £483 per hour. Fuel prices jumped from 89p per litre in February to £1.93 by April — a staggering 116% increase.

Sherriff revealed that the helicopter burns about 250 litres of fuel every hour it flies, describing the new costs as “significant”.

He added that the organisation hopes the crisis does not eventually force cuts to emergency operations.

The sharp increase in fuel prices began after tensions escalated during the US-Israel conflict involving Iran earlier this year. Missile strikes and drone attacks reportedly disrupted energy production and transportation routes across parts of the Middle East, pushing up global fuel prices.

The impact has also been felt by ordinary motorists across the U.K., with the average cost of filling a family petrol car increasing by about £14, while diesel users are paying roughly £27 more.

The U.K. government, however, insisted there was no immediate shortage of fuel supplies.

In a statement to the BBC, officials said the country remains adequately stocked and that authorities are working closely with suppliers to ensure businesses and residents are not severely affected while the conflict continues.

Other charities across London say they are also struggling with the knock-on effect of rising fuel costs.

The Felix Project, which distributes food to vulnerable people across the capital, said the increase has forced difficult decisions.

Rachel Ledwith of the charity said demand for support keeps growing, with about 800 organisations currently on its waiting list, but the rising cost of transportation is making expansion difficult.

Meanwhile, SERV Surrey and London Blood Bikes revealed that its own fuel expenses have risen by 36% since the conflict began.

Vice Chairwoman, Katie Stevens, said the long-term impact remains uncertain and worrying, though she insisted measures are already in place to maintain uninterrupted deliveries of blood products, medical supplies and donated breast milk to hospitals.

Tinubu Showers Praise on Fasoranti Ahead of 100th Birthday

    Published: May 10, 2026

President Bola Tinubu has paid a glowing tribute to elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, as he prepares to celebrate his 100th birthday on May 11.

In a statement released on Sunday, Tinubu described Fasoranti’s journey through life as one marked by sacrifice, integrity and outstanding service to Nigeria, saying the nonagenarian has earned every honour and praise coming his way.

The President applauded the Yoruba leader for his lasting impact on education, politics and the struggle to restore democratic rule in the country. According to him, Fasoranti has consistently stood out for his principles, courage and unwavering dedication to causes he believed in.

Tinubu said the Afenifere chieftain’s life reflects honesty, selfless service and exemplary leadership, noting that his influence stretched far beyond public office through activism and political engagement.

He recalled that Fasoranti was a loyal follower of late sage, Obafemi Awolowo, and among the few surviving disciples of the Awolowo political ideology. The President noted that Fasoranti was part of the defunct Action Group during the First Republic and later joined the Unity Party of Nigeria in the Second Republic.

Tinubu also highlighted Fasoranti’s role in the administration of late Adekunle Ajasin, where he served as Commissioner for Finance in old Ondo State between 1979 and 1983.

The President further praised him for standing firmly against military rule, describing him as one of the prominent voices that demanded a return to democratic governance during the era of dictatorship.

According to Tinubu, Fasoranti later emerged as a major force within Afenifere, championing Yoruba unity, progress and solidarity. He added that after the death of Abraham Adesanya and the crisis that rocked the group, Fasoranti became the widely acknowledged leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation.

Tinubu also recounted how the elder statesman survived an assassination attempt during the regime of late military ruler, Sani Abacha, saying the experience only strengthened his resolve against oppression and authoritarianism.

The President reflected on the personal losses Fasoranti endured over the years, including the death of his wife in 1991 and the killing of his daughter, Funke Olakunrin, who was murdered by kidnappers in 2019.

Tinubu also thanked the elder statesman for backing his presidential ambition and for offering prayers that eventually preceded his victory in the 2023 election.

  • 2027: Fani-Kayode, Omokri Warn Against Returning Power To North

FFK, Omokri Kick Against Power Returning to North Before 2031

    Fani-Kayode and Omokri political statement

Two ambassador-designates of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Fani-Kayode and Reno Omokri, have kicked against any move to return presidential power to Northern Nigeria before 2031, insisting it would undermine the power-sharing arrangement that has shaped the country’s democracy since 1999.

The duo argued that handing power back to the North after only one southern term would amount to a betrayal of the unwritten rotation agreement between both regions and a disservice to the political balance that has kept the country stable since the return to civilian rule.

Fani-Kayode, who was recently named ambassador-designate to South Africa, and Omokri, ambassador-designate to Mexico, made their position known in a joint statement issued on Saturday while endorsing Tinubu’s re-election bid for 2027.

According to them, the North already enjoyed two uninterrupted terms under former President, Muhammadu Buhari with the backing of the South, stressing that fairness demanded the South also complete two terms before power changes hands again.

“We view it as unpatriotic and inimical to the unity, equilibrium, and progress of Nigeria for anyone to even conceive of power returning to Northern Nigeria after only one term of four years, during which it was domiciled in Southern Nigeria,” the statement read.

The pair noted that the current southern presidency was not accidental, adding that Tinubu was instrumental in the North’s return to power in 2015.

“Not just in Southern Nigeria, but in the specific hands of the man who was the chief architect for the return of power to the North in 2015,” they stated.

Backing their argument with the principle of reciprocity, the two political allies said, “One good turn deserves another and one good term deserves another.”

They described the North-South power rotation formula as the foundation of Nigeria’s political stability in the Fourth Republic.

“It is in the best interest of the stability, unity, and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and in keeping with the Gentleman’s Agreement which ushered in our Fourth Republic in 1999, after sixteen years of turbulence and political instability, for there to be a balanced and orderly rotation of power in Nigeria between the North and the South,” the statement added.

The duo maintained that Northern Nigeria had fully exhausted its turn after eight years under Buhari and should allow the South complete its own cycle.

On Tinubu’s performance, they credited his administration with recording 12 straight cycles of GDP growth and trade surpluses, while claiming Nigeria became the sixth-largest contributor to global GDP growth in 2025 after adding “$67 billion” to the economy.

Fani-Kayode and Omokri also pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the ₦15 trillion Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the ₦13 trillion Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, and the 465-kilometre Trans-Saharan Road project aimed at linking the Southeast with Northern Nigeria.

Calling for nationwide support for Tinubu ahead of 2027, they said, “If we all extend the right hand of fellowship to President Bola Tinubu, we will, with the help of God, collectively see Nigeria become a $1 trillion economy by 2031.”

Drawing comparisons with Switzerland, the duo argued that structured power-sharing had helped the European nation maintain peace and stability for more than two centuries.

“The reason Switzerland has been stable, peaceful, and prosperous for the last 211 years is because that Alpine nation wisely introduced power sharing amongst its multiethnic population and has not seen any conflict since 1815,” they said.

They ended the statement with a direct call for Tinubu’s return in 2027, declaring, “To re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a task that must be done.”
