At least seven people were killed and more than 20 others injured after a 14-year-old student went on a shooting rampage at a school in Thailand’s Nonthaburi Province, near the capital, Bangkok, on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The teenager is accused of first killing his two grandparents at their home before going to Debsirin Nonthaburi School, where five members of the school staff were killed, according to Thai authorities and international reports.
The suspect also died after the attack, meaning the overall number of deaths linked to the incident rose to eight when he was included. At least 23 people were injured, with nine reported to be in critical condition, according to the latest figures.
The incident sent students, teachers and residents into panic as police rushed to the school to secure the area and assist those trapped inside the building.
Shooting Triggers Panic At School
The attack took place at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi Province, an area immediately outside Bangkok.
Police were deployed to the school while the situation was still developing, with authorities urging members of the public to stay away from the area.
Students and staff were seen leaving the school as emergency responders moved in. Schools located around the area also suspended activities and allowed students to return home earlier than scheduled as authorities worked to restore order.

Witness accounts described confusion and fear among students who initially struggled to understand what was happening.
One student who escaped from the school told news reporters that she was in class when she saw the suspect moving between rooms. She said the situation became particularly frightening when he reached her classroom.
Another student who spoke to reporters said he initially mistook the sound for firecrackers or somebody striking an object. He later realised that the noises were coming from the shooting.

Grandparents Among Those Killed
Authorities said the teenager allegedly attacked his grandparents at their home before travelling to the school.
The weapon involved was reportedly registered to his grandfather, who was a former teacher. It was reported that investigators recovered evidence indicating the firearm had belonged to the grandfather.
