Sowore Tracks Stolen Phones Near Ekiti Governor’s Office

The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has raised fresh concerns over the attack on him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, after two mobile phones allegedly stolen during the incident were reportedly traced to locations within the State capital.

Sowore disclosed this on Sunday, November 1, 2026, in a statement shared on his social media platforms, claiming that tracking information placed one of the missing devices directly opposite the Ekiti State Governor’s Office, while the second was traced to an area opposite Fajuyi Park in Ado-Ekiti.

The latest development comes two days after the politician and members of his entourage reportedly came under attack at Tawakalitu Restaurant in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, October 30.

According to Sowore, the two devices were among several personal belongings allegedly taken from members of his team during the incident.

Expressing concern over the locations where the phones were reportedly detected, the AAC presidential candidate questioned the circumstances surrounding their movement and renewed his demand for the release of surveillance footage from the restaurant.

In his account of the development, Sowore said: “This morning, we tracked two of the devices violently robbed from members of our team during the brutal attack in Ado-Ekiti on Friday, October 30, 2026, and the locations are deeply disturbing.

“One phone was traced to a location directly opposite the office of the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, while our other device was located opposite Fajuyi Park in Ado-Ekiti.”

He did not, however, provide publicly established evidence identifying the individuals currently in possession of the devices or explaining how they arrived at the locations.

Sowore Accuses Police, DSS Over CCTV Footage

Beyond the recovery efforts involving the missing phones, Sowore also expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of the incident by security agencies.

He accused the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) of failing to release CCTV footage allegedly obtained from Tawakalitu Restaurant, where the confrontation involving his team reportedly occurred.

According to the activist, the surveillance recordings could help establish what happened at the restaurant and identify those involved in the incident.

Sowore maintained that the footage should be made available rather than remain inaccessible to the public and other interested parties.

He subsequently issued a direct demand to the security agencies, saying: “Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force and the DSS have yet to release the CCTV footage seized from Tawakalitu Restaurant, where we were attacked.”

He added: “Release the CCTV footage now.”

The allegation concerning the handling of the CCTV recordings has added another dimension to the controversy surrounding the incident, particularly as questions continue to emerge over the identities of those involved and the circumstances that led to the confrontation.

What Happened During The Ado-Ekiti Incident?

The incident occurred on Friday, October 30, shortly after Sowore participated in a radio interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti.

The activist had travelled to Ekiti State for political engagements and other scheduled activities, including participation in the Ikogosi Marathon.

Following the incident at the restaurant, Sowore alleged that armed men attacked him and members of his entourage, leaving some of them injured and dispossessing members of the team of their personal belongings.

He also accused the DSS of providing information about his team’s location to the alleged attackers. However, the security agency’s alleged involvement has not been independently established.

The Ekiti State Police Command subsequently confirmed that an incident involving Sowore and some individuals had occurred at a restaurant in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.

However, the police offered a different account of the circumstances, describing the incident as an altercation rather than the coordinated attack alleged by the AAC candidate.

The disagreement between Sowore and the police over the description of the incident generated further public attention, with both sides maintaining different positions regarding what transpired.

Police Arrest 11 Suspects Over Incident

In a related development, the Ekiti State Police Command announced on Saturday, October 31, that it had arrested 11 suspects in connection with the incident.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad carried out the arrests at the suspects’ hideouts in the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti.

The police said the operation took place at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, following information received by the operatives.

Items reportedly recovered during the operation included 13 mobile phones, two walkie-talkies, seven ATM cards, two vehicle keys, a 5G MTN Wi-Fi device, eight international passports and other personal belongings.

The Command stated that the suspects had been taken into custody while investigations continued to establish their individual roles and determine their possible involvement in the incident.

The police also maintained that Sowore and the other affected individuals had received medical attention and were discharged from the hospital.

The arrest announcement came amid criticism from the AAC and supporters of the politician over the handling of the incident and the need for a thorough investigation.

Fresh Questions Over Missing Devices And CCTV Evidence

Sowore’s latest disclosure about the locations of the two missing phones has renewed attention on the investigation and the demand for greater transparency from the relevant security agencies.

Although the reported tracking locations have not independently established who possesses the devices or whether their occupants had any connection to the incident, the development could provide investigators with additional information to examine.

Similarly, the CCTV recordings from Tawakalitu Restaurant could potentially assist in establishing the sequence of events, provided the footage is preserved and properly examined.

For now, Sowore is insisting that the recordings should be released, while the police have announced the arrest of 11 suspects and said investigations are ongoing.

The latest development leaves several questions unanswered, including who currently possesses the two missing phones, whether the devices will be recovered and what the restaurant’s surveillance footage reveals about the incident.

As the investigation continues, attention will remain on the Ekiti State Police Command and the DSS over the handling of the evidence and the steps being taken to establish the circumstances surrounding the confrontation in Ado-Ekiti.
