Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has secured seven nominations at the 2026 Headies Awards, placing him among the most recognised artistes on this year’s prestigious nominees list.

The nominations were announced on August 25 ahead of the 18th edition of The Headies, which is scheduled to hold in Toronto, Canada, under the theme “Africa to the World.”

Wizkid’s latest recognition reflects his continued influence within Nigeria’s music industry and the growing international reach of Afrobeats.

The Grammy-winning singer received nominations across several major categories, including Song of the Year for “MMS,” his collaboration with Asake.

His collaboration with Asake also earned recognition in the Afrobeats Single of the Year category for “Jogodo,” another nomination that highlights the impact of the two artistes’ work during the eligibility period.

Wizkid’s album, Morayo, is also competing for Afrobeats Album of the Year, adding one of the most anticipated album categories to his list of opportunities at the ceremony.

The singer further received nominations for Digital Artiste of the Year and Best Male Artiste, categories that recognise both his commercial reach and standing among Africa’s leading male music stars.

His nominations extend beyond individual songs and album recognition, with his name also appearing in categories connected to production and audience-driven honours.

The seven nominations place Wizkid among the biggest names competing for honours at this year’s ceremony. Fola leads the overall nominations with 10, followed by Omah Lay with eight, while Wizkid and Mavo each have seven nominations.

Davido and Asake are also among the established Nigerian artistes receiving multiple nominations as the organisers prepare for another major celebration of African music.

The 2026 Headies eligibility period covered works released between August 1, 2024, and April 30, 2026. Singles, albums, EPs and music videos released during the period were considered for the various categories.

The organisers have presented this year’s ceremony as another step in taking African music to a wider global audience.

The decision to stage the 18th Headies in Toronto is particularly significant as Afrobeats continues to expand its presence across international markets. The ceremony’s “Africa to the World” theme reflects that broader ambition.

For Wizkid, the latest nominations add to a long history of recognition at The Headies and reinforce his status as one of the Nigerian artistes whose careers have helped push Afrobeats beyond the continent.
