Veteran Nigerian actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 following a battle with stage-four cancer.

The actor’s death was reported on Sunday, August 23, 2026, bringing an end to the life and career of one of the most recognisable figures in Nigeria’s Yoruba-language film industry.

Hassan’s passing has sparked an outpouring of grief among colleagues, fans and admirers who have followed his career for decades.

The veteran actor’s health condition had recently become a subject of public concern after his family disclosed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for medical assistance.

Kosoko also disclosed arrangements for the actor’s final rites in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.

The announcement indicated that Hassan’s remains would be taken to Ilaro, where a lying-in-state ceremony was scheduled to take place at the Pavillon in the town on Monday, August 24.
