Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is set to begin the commissioning of 10 major projects across the State as his administration intensifies efforts to deliver infrastructure and public facilities to communities across the 23 local government areas.
The commissioning exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 17, 2026, and will continue until August 28, with projects spread across different parts of the State.
The programme will feature the commissioning of major road networks, bridges, healthcare facilities, educational infrastructure and other public projects, according to the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Dagogo Wokoma.
Wokoma disclosed the schedule during a media briefing with journalists in Port Harcourt, where he explained that the projects were designed to address infrastructure gaps and improve the quality of life of residents.
He described the projects as concrete evidence of the administration’s development agenda, particularly its focus on extending Government projects beyond the State capital and into communities across different local government areas.
The SSG said the commissioning programme would begin with the Buguma-Degema-Abonnema Road on August 17.
The road is expected to improve connectivity among communities in Asari-Toru, Degema and Akuku-Toru Local Government Areas and strengthen movement within the riverine part of the State.
The second project on the schedule is the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in Etche Local Government Area, which Governor Fubara is expected to commission on August 18.
The road is among the infrastructure projects intended to improve transportation and economic activity in Etche, an area with significant agricultural and commercial activity.
On August 19, the commissioning programme will move to the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, where the Entrepreneurship Centre and Engineering Faculty Building will be unveiled.
The project is expected to strengthen the institution’s academic and practical training facilities, particularly for students pursuing technical and engineering-related programmes.
The programme will continue on August 20 with the commissioning of the Elele-Egbeda-Omoku Dual Carriageway.
The road cuts across Ikwerre, Emohua and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas, making it one of the major transportation projects on the schedule.
The route is expected to improve connectivity between communities in the three local government areas while easing transportation and supporting commercial activities along the corridor.
On August 21, attention will shift to healthcare as Fubara is scheduled to commission the Omoku Zonal Hospital in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
The facility is part of the State’s efforts to expand access to healthcare services outside Port Harcourt and provide residents in the area with improved medical infrastructure.
The commissioning activities will pause over the weekend before resuming on August 24.
The Omademe Internal Roads in Ikwerre Local Government Area will be commissioned on that date.
The project is expected to improve road connectivity within the community and facilitate movement for residents and businesses.
On August 25, the programme will move to Port Harcourt Local Government Area for the commissioning of the new runway at the Air Force Base in Rumuola.
The aviation-related infrastructure represents another major component of the commissioning programme and adds to the diversity of projects being presented by the State Government.
The following day, August 26, Governor Fubara is scheduled to commission the Agba Ndele Road and Bridge in Emohua Local Government Area.
The road and bridge project is expected to improve access between communities and contribute to easier movement of people and goods within the area.
Two major healthcare facilities are scheduled for commissioning on August 27.
They are the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital and the New General Hospital, Rumuigbo, both located in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The two health facilities form part of the administration’s investment in healthcare infrastructure, with the Government seeking to improve access to specialised and general medical services for residents.
The 12-day commissioning programme will conclude on August 28 with the commissioning of the Bonny National Grammar School in Bonny Local Government Area.
The school project will bring the curtain down on the series of ceremonies covering roads, bridges, education, healthcare and other public infrastructure across Rivers State.
Wokoma said the projects were not merely intended as physical structures but were part of the administration’s broader objective of ensuring that Government policies translate into measurable improvements in the lives of residents.
According to him, the projects demonstrate Governor Fubara’s determination to transform communities and address developmental challenges across the State.
He also stressed that the administration remained committed to spreading development across the State’s 23 local government areas.
The SSG acknowledged the roles played by Government officials, contractors, host communities and other stakeholders in bringing the projects to completion.
He urged residents to participate in the commissioning activities and support the administration’s development efforts.
The announcement comes amid continued attention on Fubara’s infrastructure record in Rivers State. The Governor has consistently presented road construction, healthcare, education and other public facilities as major components of his administration’s development agenda.
The State’s project-delivery programme has previously included major road and hospital projects. In May 2024, for instance, Fubara commissioned the dualised Omoku-Egbema Road and said his administration would continue to focus on projects capable of directly improving the lives of residents.
The latest commissioning schedule also differs from an earlier 10-project programme announced by the Rivers Government in December 2025. That earlier programme covered projects across six local government areas and was scheduled to run from December 10 to December 23, 2025.
Wokoma therefore called on Rivers residents to see the latest exercise as an opportunity to celebrate completed projects and encourage continued development across the State.
He said the Government wanted the projects to produce meaningful and measurable benefits for citizens, regardless of their location.
The SSG also appealed to residents to maintain peace and continue supporting the administration as it pursues its development plans.
The commissioning schedule is expected to take Governor Fubara and other Government officials across several local government areas between August 17 and August 28.
With projects covering transport infrastructure, education, healthcare and other public facilities, the State Government is positioning the 12-day exercise as a demonstration of its efforts to take development closer to communities across Rivers State.
