Former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola and other prominent Nigerians gathered in Lagos on Thursday to honour the late Anthony Adeosun, husband of former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun.
The funeral service attracted political leaders, public officials, business figures, friends and associates of the Adeosun family, who came together to pay their final respects to the deceased.
The service was held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David, Trinity Towers, Victoria Island, Lagos State, on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Anthony Adeosun, a businessman and Christian described by his family as a man who positively influenced those around him, died on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. He was 62.
According to a family statement signed by Rev. C.A. Adeosun, the deceased was a devoted Christian whose life was marked by his commitment to his faith and the positive impact he made on people who knew him.
The gathering in Lagos brought together several notable figures who had crossed paths with the Adeosun family over the years.
Among those who attended were Osinbajo and his wife, as well as Fashola, who previously served as Governor of Lagos State and later as a Minister in the Federal Government.
Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, was also present at the funeral service.
Florence Ajimobi, the wife of the late former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, joined other dignitaries at the church to honour the deceased.
Also in attendance was Akinwumi Adesina, former President of the African Development Bank, alongside the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji.
The presence of the dignitaries underscored the wide network of relationships built by the Adeosun family across Nigeria’s political, business and professional circles.
The funeral also provided an opportunity for friends, colleagues and associates of the family to stand with Kemi Adeosun and her children during the period of mourning.
Adeosun served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Her time in Government placed her at the centre of several major economic policy discussions before she left office in 2018.
Since leaving public office, she has remained associated with business and development-related activities, while maintaining a relatively low public profile.
Thursday’s service was focused primarily on celebrating the life of her late husband and offering support to the bereaved family.
The family had earlier announced Anthony’s death in a statement, describing him as a Christian who lived a life that touched those around him.
The statement said he was survived by his wife, Kemi; his children; and his siblings, including Adewale Adeosun, founder of Kuramo Capital.
The family members, friends and associates who attended the service were given the opportunity to remember Anthony and reflect on his life before the proceedings moved to the final stage of the funeral.
The church service ended with the family proceeding to a private burial for the deceased.
Anthony’s death at the age of 62 has therefore brought together people from different aspects of Nigerian public life, particularly those who have maintained relationships with the Adeosun family.
The attendance of former senior government officials also highlighted the respect and goodwill enjoyed by the family among Nigeria’s political and professional elite.
Osinbajo’s presence was particularly notable, having worked alongside Kemi Adeosun during the Buhari administration. Fashola and Fayemi were also members of the same federal cabinet during that period, while Adesina and Adedeji represented the financial and economic sectors at the funeral.
