The Arewa Youth for Peaceful Coexistence has declared that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, remains one of Nigeria’s strongest political forces ahead of the 2027 general election, insisting that no political party, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), can easily match his political influence.
The group made the declaration on Wednesday while reacting to recent comments by the Rivers State Chapter of the ADC regarding Wike’s political relevance and expected role in the next election cycle.
In a statement signed by its National Chairman, Haruna Bature, the organisation said political parties have the constitutional right to express their opinions, but stressed that public discourse should be guided by facts, respect and democratic values.
According to the group, Wike’s political career has been built over several years through consistent public service and grassroots mobilisation. It noted that the FCT Minister rose from serving as a local government chairman to becoming Chief of Staff in Rivers State before completing two terms as Governor and later being appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The group argued that Wike’s experience in governance and politics has positioned him as one of the country’s most influential political figures, adding that his record in public office continues to strengthen his national appeal.
It said the Minister’s achievements in infrastructure development, governance reforms and youth empowerment have earned him widespread recognition across different regions of Nigeria.
According to the statement, Wike’s political structure extends beyond Rivers State, making him a formidable force capable of influencing national political outcomes ahead of the 2027 elections.
The organisation maintained that dismissing his political strength would amount to overlooking the realities of Nigeria’s current political landscape, where experience, strategic alliances and grassroots support remain key factors in electoral success.
The group also urged the ADC and other political parties to avoid inflammatory comments capable of heating up the political atmosphere as preparations for the next general election continue.
It called on politicians to concentrate on issue-based campaigns that address the challenges facing Nigerians rather than engaging in personal attacks or divisive rhetoric.
According to the group, democratic competition should focus on presenting practical solutions to national issues, including economic growth, security, education, healthcare and job creation.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence and national unity, saying elections should remain contests of ideas rather than platforms for insults, intimidation or political hostility.
It further appealed to political leaders and their supporters to embrace peaceful engagement throughout the electoral process and respect democratic institutions.
The group expressed confidence that Nigerians would ultimately determine the outcome of the 2027 general election through the ballot box, rewarding candidates they consider competent, capable and committed to national development.
It noted that the country’s democracy would continue to grow stronger if political actors conduct themselves responsibly and allow voters to make informed choices without intimidation or unnecessary tension.
