President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to confront Nigeria’s security challenges, declaring that he remains committed to addressing the country’s problems despite inheriting numerous difficulties.
The President made the remarks on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, while receiving the leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where discussions centred on national security, governance, peace and development.
Speaking during the meeting, Tinubu insisted that he would not shy away from the responsibility Nigerians entrusted to him, stressing that tackling insecurity remains one of the top priorities of his administration.
“The challenges are there. I inherited it; I didn’t run away. I asked for this job, and I am in it,” the President said.
Tinubu acknowledged the country’s security concerns but maintained that his government is fully committed to restoring peace across the country through sustained efforts by the nation’s security agencies and other critical stakeholders.
He also reiterated his administration’s resolve to continue working with religious leaders in promoting peace, national unity and tolerance, describing interfaith cooperation as an important pillar in building a stable and prosperous Nigeria.
The President assured the bishops that his Government would remain open to constructive engagement with faith-based organisations, noting that religious institutions have continued to play significant roles in education, healthcare, humanitarian services and nation-building.
Members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria used the visit to discuss issues affecting the country, including security, governance and the welfare of Nigerians, while encouraging sustained collaboration between Government and religious institutions in advancing peace and national development.
Tinubu assured the delegation that his administration would continue implementing measures aimed at strengthening security, improving stability and creating an environment where Nigerians can live and pursue their livelihoods without fear.
The meeting formed part of ongoing consultations between the Federal Government and key national stakeholders as efforts continue to address the country’s security and socio-economic challenges.
