Cardoso, Okonjo-Iweala Lead Top African Economic Summit In Abuja

Africa’s leading financial policymakers, central bank officials and economic experts have converged on Abuja for a high-level forum focused on navigating rising global economic challenges and strengthening the continent’s resilience.

The seventh edition of the African Emerging Markets Forum is currently underway at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), bringing together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for sustaining growth amid global market uncertainty.

The gathering is expected to produce fresh ideas on improving investment, financial inclusion and economic stability across African economies facing increasing external pressures.

Among those attending the meeting are the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Oluyemi Cardoso; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji; business leaders; and participants from several African countries.

Also expected at the event is the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

The Forum is being held under the theme, “Building Resilience Amidst Geoeconomic Uncertainties,” with policymakers and finance experts exchanging ideas on managing volatility in both global and domestic markets while exploring opportunities to boost investment and expand financial inclusion across the continent.

In his welcome address, the CBN Deputy Governor in charge of Corporate Services, Muhammad Abdullahi, acknowledged that emerging economies continue to face mounting pressure from developments in the global economy. However, he noted that the challenges also present an opportunity for African countries to strengthen fiscal and monetary policies for improved economic performance.

Proceedings at the Forum are ongoing, with more updates expected as discussions continue.
