Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the immediate repair of the newly commissioned Lameco Flyover in Osogbo after a section of the ₦8.52bn project was damaged, with the Governor blaming the incident on alleged vandalism and sabotage.

The Governor also ordered security agencies to step up surveillance around public infrastructure across the State and ensure that those responsible for the damage are arrested and prosecuted.

The 672-metre flyover, which was commissioned on July 1, 2026, is one of several projects under the State Government’s ₦100bn multi-flyover infrastructure master plan covering Osogbo, Ile-Ife, Owode-Ede and Ikirun.

But less than a month after its opening, a section of the road surface developed a depression following a prolonged downpour, prompting authorities to cordon off the affected portion of the bridge.

Adeleke visited the site on Friday evening, July 24, alongside engineers from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to inspect the damage and assess the ongoing repair work.

During the inspection, the Governor received a briefing from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engr. Bashiru Bello, on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Saturday, July 25, 2026, Adeleke said he had inspected what he described as the vandalised section of the flyover the previous evening.

He commended engineers from the Ministry of Works for quickly mobilising to the site to begin repairs.

The Governor alleged that the damage was carried out by individuals determined to undermine the achievements of his administration and destroy public infrastructure built with taxpayers’ money.

Adeleke subsequently called on security agencies to intensify the protection of public infrastructure across Osun State and ensure that those behind the incident are identified, arrested and prosecuted.

He also urged residents to take responsibility for protecting government projects from vandalism and other forms of sabotage.

The incident has since triggered a political dispute between the Osun State Government and opposition figures.

The controversy comes as the State prepares for its off-cycle governorship election, which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
