NELFUND Begins Payment Of June, July Upkeep Allowances To Students
NIGERIA
After weeks of complaints from students over delayed payments, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund has commenced the disbursement of June and July upkeep allowances to beneficiaries of the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
The development was confirmed by the National Association of Nigerian Students, while several beneficiaries also shared screenshots of successful credit alerts on X.
In a statement issued on Friday, NANS National President, Akinteye Babatunde, announced that the payments had started and assured students that all outstanding backlogs would be cleared.
“The payment of June and July NELFUND upkeep allowances has officially commenced.
“As I assured you, every outstanding backlog will be paid. We remain committed to ensuring that no eligible Nigerian student is left behind,” he said.
Akinteye urged beneficiaries who had not yet received their allowances not to panic, explaining that the disbursement was being carried out in batches.
“To all beneficiaries, I urge you to remain patient as payments are processed. If you have not received yours yet, kindly stay calm, as disbursements are being made in batches.
“We are here for you, always, and we will continue to stand firmly in defence of the welfare and interests of Nigerian students.
“Aluta Continua!” the statement added.
The announcement followed weeks of complaints by students over delays in the payment of monthly upkeep allowances under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
Following the announcement, several students took to X to share screenshots of credit alerts confirming that they had received their June and July allowances.
The upkeep allowance is part of the NELFUND student loan programme, which provides monthly financial support to eligible students of tertiary institutions, in addition to tuition payments made directly to their institutions.
