A section of Osun State’s newly commissioned LAMECO flyover in Osogbo has reportedly sunk barely three weeks after the infrastructure was opened to motorists.

The 672-metre flyover, commissioned by Governor Ademola Adeleke on July 1, 2026, was affected after heavy rainfall battered the State capital for almost eight hours between Thursday and Friday.

The damage, which occurred on one lane of the bridge, left visible cracks and a depressed section of the asphalt, forcing motorists to slow down while passing through the affected area.

The development has raised concerns among residents and commuters, who called for urgent repairs to prevent the damage from worsening.

The affected section of the flyover was subsequently cordoned off, while personnel of the Amotekun Corps were deployed to restrict movement onto and off the bridge.

When our correspondent visited the site, the damaged portion showed noticeable cracks and a sunken road surface.

Residents and motorists expressed concerns about the safety of the bridge and urged the relevant authorities to immediately address the situation.

Reacting to the development in a statement, the Accord Party in Osun State alleged that the damage was an act of sabotage by members of the opposition All Progressives Congress.

The Party claimed that the incident was part of what it described as a pattern of attacks targeting public infrastructure executed by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The Osun Accord said, “The Osun Accord has received credible reports of a disturbing pattern of vandalisation targeting public infrastructure delivered by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“These acts are not ordinary criminal activities but appear to be part of a calculated attempt by desperate elements in the opposition APC to undermine and discredit the remarkable achievements of the current administration ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.

“Having failed to match the Governor’s impressive record of performance, these elements seem determined to destroy the very projects that are transforming communities across the State in order to create a false impression of Government failure.

“These acts of sabotage are strongly condemned in the strongest terms, and those behind them should know that public infrastructure belongs to the people of Osun State, not to any political party.”
