The daughters of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have appealed to Nigerians, medical professionals and well-wishers to help secure urgent treatment for their father, whom they said is battling stage-four cancer.
The emotional appeals were made separately on Instagram on Monday by Lima Taiwo and Kira Taiwo, who said the family’s immediate concern is finding a medical team or facility willing and able to continue treating the veteran actor.
According to the daughters, the situation has become increasingly serious after hospitals allegedly declined to continue treatment, leaving the family searching for alternatives.
Lima, who appeared visibly distressed in a video shared on Instagram, said her father’s health had deteriorated significantly and pleaded with anyone with access to cancer specialists or healthcare facilities to intervene.
She stressed that the family was not using the appeal to solicit financial donations but was specifically looking for medical assistance.
“Hello everybody, good evening. I’m here to ask for help from my daddy. He has cancer and it’s really, really bad,” she said in the emotional video.
Lima added that the family had struggled to find a hospital prepared to continue treating the actor and urged medical professionals and healthcare providers to give him another opportunity to fight the disease.
She said the family only became aware of the seriousness of his condition about three weeks earlier, despite the fact that his appearance did not initially suggest that he was suffering from a severe illness.
According to her, the progression of the disease had only recently become apparent to the family.
“You see him, you can’t even know that. Something is wrong that bad. It’s just starting to show. We didn’t even know until like three weeks ago,” she said.
The actor’s daughter appealed to Nigerians with connections to hospitals, oncologists or other medical professionals who could take on complicated cancer cases to contact the family.
She repeatedly clarified that the family was not asking people to send money.
“Please, I’m begging you. If you know somebody that knows somebody that will be willing to treat him, anything, we’re willing to try anything. We’re not here to ask for money. Nobody’s here to ask for money,” she said.
Lima also acknowledged the support the family has received from a relative during the difficult period, describing the intervention as significant to the family.
She said the relative had stepped in at a time when the family needed help and had provided considerable assistance.
Her appeal ended with an emotional plea as she struggled to contain her tears while speaking about the possibility of losing her father.
“But if he’s willing to do anything, please, if you know somebody that knows somebody that will be willing to treat him, would you really appreciate it? Please, I can’t watch my daddy die,” she said.
In a separate video, Kira also appealed to the public, providing further details about her father’s condition.
According to Kira, the actor has been diagnosed with stage-four cancer and the hospital currently treating him has said it can no longer continue chemotherapy.
“Hello everyone, I’m here for my daddy. He has cancer and is in stage 4. The hospital is saying that they cannot treat him again, like they can’t give him chemo again,” she said.
Kira similarly called on anyone with access to cancer treatment to come to the family’s aid.
She said the family would appreciate any legitimate medical intervention capable of improving her father’s condition, including access to chemotherapy and qualified specialists.
The actress and content creator also acknowledged the support of Senator Olamilekan Yayi, saying he had been helping the family and covering medical bills during the crisis.
“I really, really, really love to appreciate Senator Yayi. He has been the one helping us, he has been the one footing the bills,” Kira said.
The daughters’ appeals come at a particularly difficult time for the family, with both repeatedly emphasising that their primary request is access to treatment rather than financial assistance.
Kira urged medical professionals, hospitals and anyone with knowledge of an available cancer treatment option to contact her or her sister through social media.
She also pleaded with people who might be able to facilitate specialist care to act quickly.
“Please, please, if you can treat my daddy, please send me a DM. I’ll be checking my phone. Please, I don’t want my daddy to die,” she said.
The emotional appeal became more intense as Kira spoke about the effect of the illness on both her and her father.
She said she had never seen the veteran actor experience such severe pain and disclosed that he had expressed fear about dying.
“God, give me strength. I’m suffering so bad,” she said, before again asking anyone capable of helping with his treatment to intervene.
Kira added that her father had told the family that he did not want to die, making the situation particularly painful for his children.
“He’s saying that he doesn’t want to die. Please, I’ve never seen my daddy in that kind of pain before,” she said.
The latest disclosure has generated concern among fans of the veteran actor, who has remained an influential figure in Yoruba-language cinema for decades.
Taiwo Hassan, born on October 31, 1959, is 66 years old as of August 2026. He began his acting career in the early 1980s and has built a career spanning more than four decades.
Hassan has appeared in numerous Nigerian films and has also worked as a producer and filmmaker. His career includes prominent productions such as Owo Blow, Tenant of the House and Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo, in which he played Alaafin Ademuyiwa. He was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for his performance in Anikulapo.
His involvement in the Anikulapo franchise has further introduced his work to a wider international audience, with Netflix listing him among the cast of Aníkúlápó: The Series.
The current health disclosure is particularly notable because Hassan had previously spoken publicly about suffering from a prolonged illness. In 2025, he recounted a seven-year health battle during which he said he struggled to eat normally and sought treatment from different places. That earlier illness, however, was reported as a separate health experience and should not be conflated with the cancer diagnosis now disclosed by his daughters.
