Nigerian music superstar, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has been announced as the headline act for the opening night of Detty December Fest 2026 in Lagos.
The Grammy-winning singer will lead the first major performance of the festival on Friday, December 18, setting the tone for what organisers have described as an expanded 13-day celebration of music, culture, food, fashion and entertainment.
The announcement was made by Livespot360 on Thursday, August 13, 2026, through a post on the entertainment company’s official social media platform. The confirmation has immediately placed Wizkid’s appearance among the major attractions expected to shape Lagos’ 2026 festive entertainment calendar.
According to the organisers, Detty December Fest will run from December 18 through December 30, giving visitors and residents nearly two weeks of concerts and other entertainment experiences.
Wizkid is scheduled to perform on the festival’s main stage, with the opening concert expected to begin the 2026 edition on a high note. The performance will also mark another major homecoming appearance for the singer, who has remained one of Nigeria’s most influential music exports since breaking into the international scene.
The organisers are also introducing a new second stage for this year’s festival as part of efforts to broaden the event’s programming.
The additional platform, known as the Pulse Stage, will focus on emerging musicians, new sounds and promising acts from across Africa. Rather than concentrating the entire festival around established stars, the organisers said the new stage would create an opportunity for younger performers to connect with wider audiences.

He explained that the new platform would help provide opportunities for the next generation of performers while allowing the festival to showcase a broader range of sounds and talent.
The expansion means that Detty December Fest 2026 is expected to combine performances from major established stars with appearances from emerging artists, creating a more diverse programme for festivalgoers.
Livespot360 has not yet released the complete list of performers for the 2026 edition. The organisers, however, are expected to announce additional headliners and performers in the weeks ahead.
Wizkid’s selection as the opening-night headliner gives the festival a major star attraction even before the full programme has been unveiled.
The singer has maintained a strong connection with Lagos’ December entertainment season, with his previous performances regularly drawing significant attention from fans at home and abroad. His appearance at the 2026 festival is therefore expected to attract Nigerian fans, members of the diaspora and international visitors travelling to Lagos for the festive period.
The announcement also comes after the successful launch of Detty December Fest in 2025. The maiden edition brought together a combination of Nigerian, African and international performers, helping establish the festival as one of the major organised events associated with Lagos’ December entertainment season.
Among the artistes who featured at the 2025 edition were Busta Rhymes, Gunna, Shenseea, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz, Phyno, Wande Coal, Fave, Young Jonn, Qing Madi, Ice Prince, Juma Jux and Wizkid.
The 2025 festival was produced by Livespot360 at the Ilubirin Mixed-Use Development in Lagos. The company’s account of the event described it as a large-scale cultural and entertainment project designed specifically around the December season, featuring major international performances and extensive festival infrastructure.
The 2026 edition is now being positioned as an even broader experience, with the introduction of the Pulse Stage forming one of the most significant changes to the festival format.
Beyond music, organisers have said the festival will incorporate different aspects of contemporary culture and entertainment. The programme is expected to provide visitors with opportunities to experience food, fashion, performances and other activities associated with Lagos’ festive season.
The development comes as the annual Detty December period continues to attract increasing attention from tourists and Nigerians living abroad.
Lagos traditionally experiences a surge in entertainment activities during December, when international visitors and Nigerians returning home for Christmas join residents for concerts, nightlife, parties, cultural events and other social activities.
The economic significance of the period has also continued to grow. It was reported that Detty December activities generated an estimated ₦396.5 billion in consumer spending across Lagos.
The growing commercial value of the season has encouraged event organisers to develop larger and more structured festivals capable of attracting both local and international audiences.
For Livespot360, Detty December Fest represents an effort to consolidate several elements of Lagos’ December entertainment culture within a major festival environment.
The company has previously described the festival as a destination experience built around the energy of Nigeria’s festive season, with music and contemporary culture forming the centre of the programme.
Wizkid’s headline performance on December 18 will therefore serve as the starting point for the 2026 festival, while the subsequent days are expected to feature more artistes and entertainment activities.
The opening night is scheduled to take place at the Detty December Village in Lagos, with ticket categories already reported to include General Access, Golden Circle and VIP Standing. General Access tickets were listed at ₦50,000, Golden Circle at ₦150,000 and VIP Standing at ₦300,000, while tables are available through the event’s concierge.
With additional performers still expected to be announced, attention will now shift to the full 2026 lineup and the range of activities planned for the 13-day festival.
For Wizkid fans, however, the December 18 date already provides one of the biggest attractions of this year’s Lagos festive calendar.
The announcement means that the 2026 Detty December Fest will begin with one of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats stars at the centre of the opening-night programme, while the new Pulse Stage is expected to give emerging African talents an opportunity to share the spotlight throughout the festival.
