Nollywood filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has announced the ensemble cast of her upcoming feature film, The Four: No One Fights Alone, bringing together some of the biggest names in Nigeria’s film, music and entertainment industries.
The new movie is scheduled to open in cinemas globally on December 11, 2026, with FilmOne set to handle its theatrical distribution.
Akindele, who is taking on multiple responsibilities on the project as writer, director, producer and one of the lead actors, is returning to the big screen with a story that focuses on friendship, motherhood, sacrifice, resilience and the strength that comes from standing together.
The announcement has generated attention because of the breadth of talent assembled for the project. The cast cuts across established Nollywood actors, younger screen stars and personalities from Nigeria’s music and entertainment scene.
Among those announced for the film are Funke Akindele, Waje, Chioma Akpotha, Bisola Aiyeola, John Ekanem, Wunmi Toriola, Lateef Adedimeji, Ireoluwa Olaniyan, Ali Nuhu, Omotunde Adebowale David, popularly known as Lolo1, Mide Iwasokun, Kolapo Omotosho, Shoday, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Uzor Arukwe and Ogbolor.
Other performers attached to the project include Ronke Oshodi Oke, Antar Laniyan, Samuel Banks and Ayomide Iwasokun.
The production’s title, The Four: No One Fights Alone, points to the central importance of solidarity in the story. The film is described as an emotionally driven drama that examines how relationships can shape people’s decisions, test their loyalty and give them the courage to confront difficult circumstances.
According to the story setup, the film is set across the picturesque Odu Community and the city, creating a contrast between a traditional community environment and the energy of urban life.
At the centre of the narrative is Esosa and three women who share a strong bond and remain determined to protect the future of a young man they deeply care about.
Their decision to stand up for him eventually places their friendship and personal convictions under pressure. As the women confront the challenges before them, the story explores the meaning of courage, faith, loyalty and sacrifice.
Beyond its dramatic storyline, The Four is also expected to highlight elements of Nigerian culture. Music, fashion, language and tradition are incorporated into the film as part of its broader portrayal of Nigerian identity.
Akindele said the project was designed around relationships and experiences that audiences could recognise from their own lives.
Speaking in an interview made public on Monday, the filmmaker explained that audiences who have followed her work over the years expect entertainment that also connects with their everyday experiences.
She said The Four would examine the relationships that influence people’s lives, challenge them and remain significant over time.
The project represents another major theatrical outing for Akindele, whose career has increasingly combined acting with filmmaking and large-scale commercial productions.
Over the years, she has been associated with several successful Nollywood productions, including Omo Ghetto: The Saga, Battle on Buka Street, A Tribe Called Judah, Everybody Loves Jenifa and Behind The Scenes.
Her recent run of commercially successful productions has further established her as one of the most prominent filmmaker-producers in Nigeria’s contemporary cinema industry.
Akindele’s ability to combine comedy, drama, family themes and contemporary Nigerian experiences has also helped her projects attract broad audiences. Her productions frequently feature large ensembles, giving established actors and emerging performers opportunities to share the screen.
Her earlier work, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, became a major box-office success after its December 2020 cinema release, while subsequent projects continued to strengthen her commercial profile.
