The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has described the forthcoming August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State as one of the most important political contests in the State’s history, urging Party members to remain united and committed to securing victory.
Basiru made the remarks during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja as the Party intensifies preparations for the governorship poll. According to a statement he signed on Tuesday, the election represents a defining moment that will determine the future direction of Osun State for years to come.
The APC chieftain stressed that the Party cannot afford to treat the election lightly, insisting that every member has a crucial role to play in ensuring a successful campaign and eventual victory at the polls.
He noted that the governorship election goes beyond a routine political exercise, describing it as an opportunity for the people of Osun to decide the quality of leadership they want and the developmental path the State should follow.
Basiru urged Party leaders, elected officials, supporters and grassroots mobilisers to work together with a common purpose, saying unity remains one of the APC’s greatest strengths ahead of the election.
According to him, internal cooperation, discipline and effective mobilisation across all local government areas will be vital in delivering success for the Party.
He called on members to avoid distractions capable of creating divisions within the APC, adding that the focus should remain on presenting the Party’s achievements, policies and vision to the electorate.
Basiru also encouraged supporters to intensify voter engagement by reaching out to communities across the State, explaining the Party’s programmes and persuading eligible voters to participate in the election.
He maintained that every vote would count in the contest and urged members to ensure that eligible supporters obtain their voter credentials and turn out peacefully on election day.
The APC National Secretary expressed confidence that the Party has the structure, experience and political strength required to emerge victorious if members remain united and committed to the campaign.
He said the Party leadership at the national level is fully backing the Osun governorship campaign and will continue to provide the necessary support to ensure a successful outing.
Basiru further commended Party stakeholders for their dedication and contributions so far, urging them not to relent as the election draws closer.
He reiterated that the APC remains focused on offering what he described as credible leadership and sustainable development for the people of Osun State.
The meeting in Abuja formed part of a series of consultations and strategy sessions aimed at strengthening the Party’s campaign ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Party leaders reportedly reviewed campaign plans, mobilisation efforts and strategies for engaging voters across the State during the meeting.
The governorship election is expected to attract significant national attention, with political parties intensifying campaigns to win the confidence of voters.
Analysts believe the outcome of the poll could have wider political implications, particularly as political parties continue to position themselves ahead of future electoral contests across the country.
For the APC, the election is seen as an opportunity to strengthen its political presence in Osun and reaffirm its influence in the South-West region.
Basiru therefore appealed to Party faithful to remain focused, law-abiding and committed to peaceful campaigns throughout the election period.
He emphasised that the APC’s success would depend not only on its campaign activities but also on the unity, dedication and hard work of members at every level of the Party.
With less than two weeks before voters head to the polls, political activities have continued to gather momentum across Osun State as parties step up consultations, rallies and grassroots mobilisation.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to oversee the election, while security agencies are also preparing to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
As campaigning enters its final phase, all eyes will be on Osun State, where the outcome of the governorship election is expected to shape the State’s political landscape and influence its governance trajectory in the years ahead.
