The Osun State Government has accused the Nigeria Police Force of carrying out coordinated raids on the homes of top officials in Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration, alleging that security operatives invaded residences without search warrants, arrested occupants and targeted senior government figures in what it described as a politically motivated operation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, alleged that the latest operation was carried out at the residence of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Teslim Igbalaye.
According to the Government, a combined team of police officers led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations stormed the SSG’s residence while he was away attending an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stakeholders’ forum.
The Government claimed that family members of the SSG were arrested during the operation and taken to undisclosed locations.
It further alleged that the raid on Igbalaye’s residence came after similar operations at the homes of about six commissioners and other senior government officials across the State.
The statement said ward officials were holding a meeting within the SSG’s residence when the police team arrived.
The Government also alleged that officers raided the residence of the Commissioner for Energy in Ikire on Tuesday, where they reportedly searched the premises and damaged several properties.
According to the statement, five other commissioners also reported that their residences had either been placed under surveillance or invaded despite no illegal activities taking place there.
The Osun Government further claimed that several members of the Accord Party were arrested during the operations and are currently being detained at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Osun State Police Command without being granted bail.
Describing the operations as an assault on democracy, the Government accused the Osun State Police Command of acting in the interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“These raids on the SSG and our commissioners are an aggravated assault on the Government and people of Osun State. This campaign of repression constitutes grave danger to democracy. It is a reprehensible unprofessional conduct by the police in support of the State APC,” the statement said.
The Government also accused the police of abandoning neutrality.
“By openly launching attacks on Osun Government officials, the State Police Command has again confirmed its partiality, its partisanship and its becoming a direct tool in the hands of Osun APC. This is a law enforcement agency becoming lawless and acting against the spirit and letters of the Constitution,” it added.
The Adeleke administration expressed concern that the alleged raids occurred on the same day the Chairman of INEC was meeting with political stakeholders as preparations continue for the State’s electoral process.
It argued that the actions of the police could undermine confidence in the conduct of free, fair and credible elections in Osun State.
The State Government called on the Police Service Commission, the Inspector-General of Police, the National Security Adviser, President Bola Tinubu and traditional rulers to urgently intervene, warning that the situation could degenerate into a wider breakdown of law and order if left unchecked.
“We again call the attention of our traditional rulers, the Nigeria Police Service, the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to this escalation of targeted violence against top government officials and Accord members in Osun State. This must be stopped before it escalates into a general breakdown of law and order,” the statement said.
The Government added that Governor Ademola Adeleke has consistently appealed to residents to remain peaceful and avoid taking the law into their own hands despite rising political tensions in the State.
“The situation is reaching a boiling point. We must save our democracy from these lawless elements within the Nigerian Police,” the statement added.
