The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Isa Ashiru, has announced former Kaduna State House of Assembly member, Barrister Irmiya Ishaku Kantiok, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.
The announcement comes as political parties continue to position themselves ahead of the next general elections, with candidates unveiling key members of their campaign teams and leadership tickets.
Ashiru said Kantiok’s selection reflects the party’s commitment to presenting a leadership team capable of delivering inclusive governance and sustainable development across Kaduna State.
Speaking on the announcement, Ashiru said:
“Today, I proudly announce Barrister Irmiya Ishaku Kantiok as my running mate for the 2027 gubernatorial race under our great party, the African Democratic Congress.”
He described Kantiok as a seasoned politician, legal practitioner and experienced public servant whose record in public office would strengthen the party’s campaign.
Kantiok previously represented Zonkwa Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly, where he served for three consecutive terms. During his time in the legislature, he participated in lawmaking and oversight responsibilities while representing the interests of his constituents.
According to Ashiru, his running mate’s experience in governance and legislative affairs will complement the party’s vision of building a more prosperous, peaceful and inclusive Kaduna State.
The ADC governorship candidate also expressed confidence that the partnership would resonate with voters across the state as the campaign gathers momentum.
Political observers believe the choice of Kantiok could strengthen the party’s presence, particularly in Southern Kaduna, where the former lawmaker has maintained a notable political profile.
With the unveiling of the deputy governorship candidate, the ADC has formally completed its governorship ticket as preparations for the 2027 election continue.
The party is expected to intensify consultations, grassroots mobilisation and engagement with stakeholders across Kaduna State in the coming months as political activities gradually gather pace.
Although the election is still some time away, political parties are already making strategic decisions aimed at strengthening their chances at the polls. The selection of running mates is often viewed as an important step in building a balanced ticket that reflects experience, regional representation and political strength.
For the ADC, the Ashiru-Kantiok ticket represents its latest move to position itself as a competitive alternative in Kaduna State’s political landscape. The party says it remains focused on offering policies and leadership that address the needs of residents while promoting accountability, development and good governance.
As campaigns continue to evolve ahead of the 2027 governorship election, voters are expected to closely monitor the manifestos, leadership qualities and policy proposals presented by candidates seeking to lead Kaduna State.
