A joint security operation in Yobe State has led to the arrest of five suspected kidnappers and the recovery of firearms, ammunition and mobile phones allegedly linked to their activities.

The operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with the Yobe State Hunters Group, following intelligence on suspected criminal elements operating in the area.

The raid took place on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in Jegalari Village, Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Troops of the 233 Battalion, deployed at the Damaturu Military Cantonment, conducted the operation after receiving credible intelligence about the activities of individuals suspected to be involved in kidnapping and other related crimes.

According to the military, the operation resulted in the arrest of the five suspects without incident.

The items recovered included three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, one locally made pistol, assorted ammunition and four mobile phones believed to be connected to the suspects’ alleged criminal activities.

The suspects remain in military custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of their alleged involvement in kidnapping and other criminal offences.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 24, 2026, the Acting Military Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the operation demonstrated the military’s determination to dismantle criminal networks operating across the North-East.

“The suspects are currently in military custody alongside the recovered exhibits for further investigation to ascertain their involvement in kidnapping and other related criminal activities,” the statement said.

Goni reiterated that Operation HADIN KAI would continue to conduct intelligence-driven operations aimed at denying terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal elements freedom of operation across the region.

He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent criminal activities and improve security in their communities.

“The military urges members of the general public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest security agency,” he added.

According to him, timely and credible information from law-abiding citizens remains crucial to ongoing efforts to protect communities and strengthen security across the North-East.
