The Oyo State House of Assembly has given Governor Seyi Makinde the green light to proceed on his annual leave, with Deputy Governor, Adebayo Lawal, expected to take charge of the State’s affairs during the Governor’s absence.

The approval was granted during plenary on Thursday after lawmakers considered a letter from Makinde notifying the Assembly of his planned leave.

According to the letter, the Governor will proceed on leave from August 10 to September 11, 2026, and is scheduled to resume official duties on September 14, 2026.

The request was considered in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, which requires a Governor to notify the State House of Assembly before proceeding on leave or being absent from office.

The letter was read by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the sitting in the absence of the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin.

After deliberations, the lawmakers unanimously approved the request and expressed confidence in Deputy Governor Lawal’s ability to ensure the smooth running of the State Government throughout Makinde’s absence.
