The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to grant bail to John Agbo, the man accused of plotting attacks on several schools in the Federal Capital Territory.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that Agbo should remain in custody after the prosecution concluded its case, holding that the defendant failed to show he would not abscond if released on bail.
Agbo, who was arrested by the Department of State Services, is facing terrorism and cybercrime charges over an alleged plan to attack schools, pupils and teachers in the FCT.
Delivering her ruling on the bail application, Justice Abdulmalik said there was no evidence before the court to establish that Agbo would not jump bail.
The court subsequently ordered that he remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending the continuation of his trial.
Earlier in the proceedings, a DSS officer testified on how investigators handled the case involving Agbo and some of his alleged collaborators.
The witness also tendered an audio-visual recording of Agbo’s interview with investigators, which was admitted in evidence and played in open court.
Following the presentation of the fourth prosecution witness, the prosecution formally closed its case.
Justice Abdulmalik thereafter adjourned the matter until September 24 for Agbo to open his defence.
