The Federal Government has congratulated Colombia’s President-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, following his victory at the polls ahead of his inauguration scheduled for August 7.
In a statement released on Friday through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official X account, Nigeria described the election outcome as a reflection of the democratic will of the Colombian people and reaffirmed its readiness to strengthen ties with the incoming administration.
The statement, signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said Nigeria looked forward to expanding bilateral cooperation with Colombia in areas of shared interest.
“Nigeria and Colombia share a steadfast commitment to democracy, peace and sustainable development,” the statement said.
The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to deepening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between both countries, particularly in trade, investment, security and South-South cooperation.
According to the Ministry, Nigeria is optimistic that under the leadership of President-elect de la Espriella, relations between both countries will continue to grow for the mutual benefit of their citizens.
The Government further wished the President-elect a successful tenure as he prepares to assume office on August 7, expressing confidence that his administration will promote peace, progress and prosperity for the Colombian people.
