A new chapter has begun at the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as Professor Segun Aina officially assumed office as the agency’s substantive registrar on Friday, becoming the youngest person ever to occupy the position.
The 40-year-old computer engineering professor took over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede at JAMB’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, following the expiration of Oloyede’s two-term, 10-year tenure on July 31, 2026.
President Bola Tinubu had appointed Aina as the new registrar on May 21, 2026, when he was 39 years old, making history as the youngest individual to lead the examination body.
Announcing the appointment, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described Aina as a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure and public-sector institutional reform.
Onanuga noted that Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering at the age of 39 and has now added another milestone by emerging as JAMB’s youngest Registrar.
Speaking shortly after taking over office, Aina pledged to uphold the integrity and credibility of JAMB while expanding the use of modern technology to combat examination malpractice.
He warned individuals involved in examination fraud to abandon such activities, stressing that JAMB would not tolerate any attempt to compromise the integrity of its examinations.
Aina also assured Nigerians that the Board would continue strengthening its collaboration with security agencies to protect the examination process and maintain transparency and credibility in the country’s admission system.
