The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Channels Media Group, Dr. John Momoh, OON, has urged Nigerians, particularly the younger generation, to remain hopeful and committed to the country’s future, stressing that the potential to transform the nation lies within its people.

Momoh made the call while addressing delegates at the 2026 National Diaspora Day and Merit Awards in Abuja.

Speaking on the need for Nigerians to recognise and harness their potential, the media executive said there was a sleeping strength within every individual that needed to be awakened.

“In each and every one of us, and the youth among us today, there’s a lion sleeping… All we need to do is to wake it up,” he said.

The Channels Media Group Chairman urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country, encouraging citizens to continue believing in Nigeria’s future and to play their part in its development.

The 2026 National Diaspora Day celebration was held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, from Friday, July 24, to Saturday, July 25, 2026, under the theme, “Harnessing Global Diaspora Medical Expertise to Strengthen Local Health Systems for National Development.”

The event, organised by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, brought together government officials, professionals, Nigerians in the Diaspora and other stakeholders to discuss national development and the contributions of Nigerians at home and abroad.

The 2026 National Diaspora Merit Award, the fourth edition of the annual recognition programme, was scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

The programme is designed to recognise Nigerians in the Diaspora who have made significant and sustained contributions to Nigeria’s development.

Momoh’s message came against the backdrop of discussions on the role of Nigerians, especially young people, in shaping the country’s future. His call was for Nigerians to look beyond the country’s challenges and awaken the potential, courage and determination required to contribute meaningfully to national development.
