The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has welcomed the Tinubu REA Board Appointment of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose and two other individuals to its governing board, describing the move as a significant boost to its operations.

REA Managing Director, Dr. Abba Aliyu, said the appointment of Fayose, Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta would strengthen the Agency’s efforts to expand electricity access to rural and underserved communities across Nigeria.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Aliyu commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the appointment of “round pegs in round holes,” saying the appointees’ combined experience would be valuable to the Agency’s mission.

“Our visionary leader, President Tinubu, is intentional about ensuring that every Nigerian has access to reliable electricity. With these new appointments, the President has further demonstrated his keen commitment to our success,” he said.

Aliyu also praised Fayose’s record as Governor of Ekiti State, particularly his focus on rural development and infrastructure projects aimed at linking underserved communities with urban centres.

He recalled that during his tenure, Fayose was credited with constructing dual carriageway township roads, a flyover bridge, a new Governor’s Office and several markets that contributed to the State’s agricultural economy.

The appointments, which took effect immediately, were announced on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Under the new structure, Fayose will serve as Chairman of the REA Board, while Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta will serve as non-executive board members.

The REA said the new board members would help accelerate the Agency’s mandate of providing reliable and sustainable electricity to rural communities through renewable and grid-extension projects.
