Controversial Nigerian entertainer Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has regained his freedom after spending several days in detention over allegations linked to comments he made in a viral video. The DJ Chicken released news was confirmed on Monday as videos of his exit from custody flooded social media.

The development comes less than two weeks after the online personality was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos, on charges related to an alleged threat against Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu.

DJ Chicken’s legal troubles began earlier this month after a video surfaced online in which he allegedly made threatening remarks while discussing the 2027 presidential election. The clip attracted widespread criticism and prompted intervention from security agencies.

Following his arrest in Lagos, his lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, publicly appealed for understanding and forgiveness, insisting that the entertainer should be given another opportunity.

The controversy surrounding the case intensified after DJ Chicken was formally charged in court on allegations bordering on threats, conduct capable of causing a breach of public peace and offences under Nigeria’s Cybercrime Act. Court proceedings later saw him plead not guilty to all counts brought against him.

According to court records, the trial magistrate granted the entertainer bail in the sum of ₦1 million and ordered that he provide two sureties in like amount. However, he remained at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of those conditions.

Before his release, several public figures and supporters had weighed in on the matter. Among them was activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, who openly criticised the prosecution and offered assistance to the entertainer.

In a post shared on social media, Sowore said: “If anyone knows how to reach DJ Chicken’s family or relatives, I will be happy to advocate for him and help him challenge the burdensome charges brought against him.”

He added: “I want to help get DJ Chicken out of prison because I do not believe he deserves to spend a day behind bars; he is entitled to his liberty under the law.”

Sowore also argued that young Nigerians require opportunities and guidance rather than what he described as unnecessary persecution.

The case stems from statements allegedly made by DJ Chicken in Yoruba during an online broadcast in which he commented on the country’s political future. Amid the backlash, the entertainer later released another video in which he withdrew the statement and maintained that his comments were not intended to be taken literally.

His family members also publicly appealed for leniency while he remained in custody. Videos shared online showed emotional pleas from relatives asking that the matter be resolved peacefully.

DJ Chicken, known for his outspoken personality and controversial online content, has built a large following across multiple social media platforms.

Although his release marks a temporary relief for the entertainer and his followers, the legal proceedings are far from over. The court has scheduled the next hearing in the matter for August 3, 2026, when further proceedings are expected to continue.
